He may have millions in the bank but Tom Cruise was left red-faced this week as he tried to pay for a curry at a Hertfordshire restaurant.
The A Lister surprised staff at the Veer Dhara restaurant in St Albans when he arrived with his entourage and daughter Isabella, 19 for a slap up meal. Tom is in town filming his new movie 'All You Need Is Kill' at nearby Leavesden studios with Emily Blunt. Despite his multi million dollar pay checks Tom didn't have any Brit cash on him to foot the £220.85, (with a generous £80 tip) so tried to pay with his American Express card.
Unfortunately for Tom the curry house wouldn't accept the card and another member of the party was forced to pay for the dinner.
The restaurant has helpfully revealed the full list of dishes which Tom and his crew tucked into, if you haven't had your dinner yet prepare for hunger pangs. Tom is reported to have ordered fish and chicken starters and two lobster dishes for his party. He also chose two chicken tikka masalas, two lamb dishes, along with rice and bread sides. Yum!
Apparently the actor likes things hot as he asked for the tikka masala to be "extra spicy." Maybe that's why he had the red face? Staff reportedly specially created the spicy dish for Tom.
According to the Telegraph, owner Darshit Hora said: "It's absolutely wonderful to have a Hollywood star here is very good for the restaurant."
Meanwhile waiter Ashish Srivasdava, 23 admitted he was starstruck: "I was shaking I was so nervous. At first I couldn't look in his eyes. When I greeted him I was smiling and so was he and that's when I realised it was him. I regret not asking for a photo or autograph now but at the time it wasn't professional."
"It was amazing to serve Tom and his guests. He was extremely polite and very nice to all the staff. I took him straight to his table and amazingly none of our other customers realised it was him, which was lucky or they might have a gone a little crazy.
"The table was very chatty but Tom was more withdrawn and seemed a lot more quiet - I guess he might have a lot on his mind."
With the recent death of his friend and collaborator Tony Scott at the weekend not to mention the finalisation of his divorce from Katie Holmes, we imagine a quiet curry night was just what the doctor ordered!
