Zayn Malik had One Direction fans up in arms yesterday (August 22) when he announced he was leaving Twitter - but it seems as if they only have themselves to blame.
Following the uproar of his exit from the social site, the singer confirmed that he deleted his Twitter account after tiring of rumours about him smoking weed and cheating on girlfriend Perrie Edwards.
Zayn explained to close friends on social messenger Kik that he was sick of rumours spiralling out of control due to his Twitter updates: "Don’t worry about me, im fine. I just deleted my account because of all the hate i was getting just by tweeting something simple."
"And all the rumours of me smoking weed and cheating. I dont need to read any of that negativity."

Shorty afterwards distraught Directioners around the globe got #comebackZayn and #Zayncomeback trending on the micro-blogging site.
Earlier this year, Zayn’s girlfriend, Perrie Edwards, also quit her personal account after becoming fed up with nasty comments from jealous One Direction fans.
One Direction's fans have always been known to be obsessed with the lads but it seems any lady connected to the band has been hounded by Directioners.
Harry Styles' ladies Caroline Flack, Caggie Dunlop and Cara Delevingne have all hit out at fans after abusive tweets on the social site.
