WATCH: Shirley MacLaine And Dame Maggie Smith's Downton Abbey Union 'A Treat' For Cast

Jim Carter gushes

As the debut of series three of Downton Abbey draws closer, we bet fans of the hit ITV1 period drama are getting excited about seeing iconic Hollywood star Shirley MacLaine on the show.

However it appears that the fans aren't the only one who have been getting excited to see Shirley on the show. Catching up with the cast of Downton, Entertainmentwise's Georgie Barrat spoke to Jim Carter who recalled the experience of filming with the actress.

The actor who plays the estate's butler, Mr Carson, revealed: "My favourite bit (of the show) was having Shirley MacLaine parachuted in for a few episodes which was fantastic.

"To have someone who is hot-wired through Hollywood and Maggie Smith who is hotwired through Hollywood and the theatrical establishment, together was a treat for all of us."

Recalling the moment he and Shirley met, Rob James Collier who plays Thomas Barrow added that he had a unique run in with the actress.

"On the first day the staff are greeting her outside the front of the house. And at the rehearsals she got out the car, this Hollywood icon, and she was kind of looking for someone. And everyone was there, the entire cast, and she went 'It's you!' pointing at me."And I did the classic 'She can't be talking to me', looked behind me but it's just hedges there, and I thought 'She can't be talking to the bush!'

"She came over to me and she's like: "The evil one! Why are you so evil?"

We can't wait for the new series of Downton Abbey to start, can you?
