Singer Avril Lavigne has taken to Twitter to announce her engagement to Nickelback's Chad Kroeger after dating for just six months.
The couple hit it off back in February when Lavigne and Kroeger met to co-write a number of songs for her forthcoming fifth album.
A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together," a Lavigne pal told People magazine. On August 8, Kroeger, 37, asked for her hand in marriage, presenting Lavigne with a huge 14-carat engagement ring.

A spokeswoman for Lavigne, 27, confirmed the pair got engaged earlier this month and have kept the news quite from fans.

This will be Chad Kroeger's first marriage while it is Avril Lavigne's second, as she has previously been married to Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley.

The pair divorced in 2009 after being married for three years. Lavigne recently slit from American TV star Brody Jenner, who is Kim Kardashian's stepbrother, earlier this year.
