Entertainmentwise recently attended the press launch for the new series of ITV1's hugely popular period drama, Downton Abbey. We spoke to a number of the cast about their roles in the upcoming third series, in particular Elizabeth McGovern who plays Lady Cora.
Asked about what's in store for her character, McGovern commented: “Cora's going to be rolling with the punches, because the world is changing and she has to ease her husband Robert into a lot of the transitions he'll be facing.”
The new series will be set in the 1920's and covers a period of 18 months in which producers promised plenty of juicy story lines, involving marriage, birth, and death!
McGovern spoke highly of her Downton experience and fellow cast members saying: “There's a nice growing warm bond between the people that work on this show, because we've been doing it now for three years. I'd say there's a growing feeling of trust and respect which is nice because I don't know that it always plays out that way on shows that go on and on.
“It's such gruelling work and you're under so many different kinds of pressure but that is definitely the way I feel with all the cast. It truly does energise you and keeps you going.
“It finally boils down to that basic thing, that becomes more important than anything else, that respect for the people you're working with ,and a sort of love for them that makes it all worth while”
The new series of Downton Abbey will broadcast in later in September. We can't wait!
