Amy Winehouse's ex husband Blake Fielder-Civil came close to death recently, following an apparent drugs and alcohol binge and despite his mother's constant help, she has admitted in an emotional interview that it 'may have been better if he died like Amy.'
The addict was kept alive with life-support machines and filled with antibiotics to fight infections. However, by Wednesday (August 15), Blake was showing signs of improvement and woke from his coma, muttering the words "I want my mum".
Mother Georgette Civil, 47 has been by her sons side constantly and although she loves him very much, she is well aware that Blake is fast becoming one of the most hated people out there, after people blamed him for Amy's downfall.
Georgette has told the Mail: "I try to visualise a better future for Blake but it’s hard because drugs have such a powerful hold over him and take away the best parts of his personality."
Amy Winehouse and Blake divorced in 2009 after two toxic years of marriage, with Amy summing up the union with the words: "Our whole marriage was based on drugs."
Georgette goes onto say: "I can’t honestly say he will recover in my lifetime. In my darkest moments, I sometimes think it would have been better if he’d died — not because I don’t love him but because sometimes I can see no end to his torment."
"I really hope this near-death experience will be the wake-up call he needs to change his life. But he has to want to change and I can’t make him. I’m willing to relocate anywhere to get him away from his addict friends and dealers, even to the Isle of Skye if necessary."
