Matthew McConaughey has one of Hollywood’s most famously fit frames – until recently, the actor has been looking borderline manorexic.
But not to worry, because it's not a health condition or vanity issues, but the 42-year-old is set to portray an AIDS patient in The Dallas Buyer’s Club alongside Oscar-winner, Hilary Swank, 38.
"I'm playing a guy who was sick and would have loved to have been healthier but wasn't,” McConaughey told Us Weekly at a party on Wednesday. “For me, it's more of a mental thing than a physical thing. I'll get down to the weight I need to get to. I'm on my way, and it's what I need to do for the job."
The father-of-two is eating "small amounts" of high-protein, low-carb foods to shed those lbs.
"It's only five ounces," he explained. "That's the toughest thing."
To burn the calories to lose the weight, McConaughey told the magazine. "There's very, very little resistance."
What the Texan is most looking forward to eating when the film wraps – a "cheeseburger."
The newlywed is also expecting the birth of his third child with his 30-year-old wife, Camila Alves.
Even though McConaughey can’t eat a whole lot right now, he has also been a doting husband to his pregnant spouse by “doing a lot of cooking!”
