The Fierce Five’s Gabby Douglas is loved all across the nation, but her estranged parents are now bringing negativity into her world as they're reportedly fighting for the millions she is about to earn.
With Douglas’ lucrative endorsement deals that are expected to rake in $10 million over the next few years and up to $100 million over her lifetime, sources tell the National Enquirer bad blood is already boiling.
“Both sides of Gabby’s family are jockeying to be in good standing with the goose that laid the golden egg,” a source said. “Meanwhile, poor Gabby is caught in the middle.”
The 16-year-old “Flying Squirrel” was launched into the limelight with Olympics gold medals in the U.S. Women’s Olympics Gymnastics Team -- the Fierce Five -- wining the team and individual all-around competitions, but now her family life details have emerged.
In February, her dad Timothy Douglas, 46, was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He has one year to complete a state-mandated parenting course to dodge serving jail time.
This occurred less than two weeks after Gabby’s mom, Natalie Hawkins, filed for divorce from Douglas.
“I’m trying to keep things positive right now,” Douglas, who served more than 17 years with the Virginia Air National Guard -- including being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan -- told the magazine. “I feel like I’ve been the best father that I can be to my daughter and to my family.”
But things only got worse while Gabby was competing in the Olympics.
“Gabby’s dad took relatives to London to see her compete, but she didn’t have tickets to get them into the events,” said the source. “They had to watch a lot of her competition on TV monitors outside.”
May Douglas, Gabby’s paternal grandmother said: “We don’t know how many tickets were given, and how they were given, we only know they were not given to us.”
Another source added: “Timothy and his family suspect Natalie had everything to do with them not being able to gain access to Gabby’s competitions, and they’re furious about being cut out!”
