Oscar winning director Ang Lee and 20th Century Fox have released the first trailer of the hugely anticipated adaptation of the Yann Martell's novel, 'The Life of Pi'. From the look of the trailer it could be a breathtaking 3D extravaganza.
While most 3D films have disappointed in their use of the technology, those that have succeeded have taken an immersive approach, based less on action and more in placing the viewer at the centre of a particular world.
Even from the 2D trailers, one can see that this is the approach Lee intends to take, with spectacular depictions of the animals that join Pi on a voyage, as he takes the journey of the novel which sees him lost at sea with a tiger for 227 days. The movie will star Tobey Maguire and Suraj Sharma.
The film is released on November 21. and will certainly provide something different for cinema goers this autumn, not least because of the novel's unconventional storytelling, but also hopefully because Lee has taken 3D to a higher level than other film makers.
