Another night, another sing-off and another Jesus is sent home as the quarter finals of Superstar took place. With just three nights to go, the five remaining hopefuls battled it out to get the Holy Grail that is playing the lead role of Jesus in tonight’s Superstar in a UK wide arena tour.
Roger and Nathan were in tonight’s sing-off to remain in the competition. They sang ‘Love Changes Everything.’ Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber then had to make the final decision to send one of the wannabe Jesus’ home. He decided to send Nathan into the light as the show heated up close to the final showdown.
First to perform in tonight’s Superstar was Nathan. He sang a version of Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way.’ Dawn said: “You are riding high. You are mind-blowingly talented.” Mel C said: “We know we can count on you to start the show with a big bang.” Andrew added: “Nathan your voice is amazing, but I think you need to love the song more than you love yourself.” Andrew was soon to cast controversy as he blamed Nathan for tweeting a picture of himself wearing a crown of thorns.
Up next was Roger who sang a rendition of ‘Handbags And Gladrags.’ Jason said: “Roger, I have to say that was very smooth. The actual song and vocal suited you and there was charm, charisma and warmth. Your acting is getting better too. I really hope you stay in this competition.” Dawn commented by saying: “You please my heart when you sing.” Andrew said: “You are a real performer. I’m really glad I saved you. You have a good quality.”
Third to perform tonight was David. He sang Alex Clare’s ‘Too Close.’ Mel C said: “This song is very current. It’s a brave song choice. You completely inhabit your performance. It’s very powerful.” Dawn said: “David you’re so composed. You craft the song incredibly well.” Andrew commented by saying: “You are a craftsman. There’s no question you have fantastic charisma. Bravo David.”
Next to perform was Rory who sang a rendition of Queen’s ‘Under Pressure.’ Jason was first to comment on his performance. He said: “Rory, I think that was the performance of the evening so far. You have a vocal tone and charisma that on stage I think you can deliver the part of Jesus.” Mel C said: “Tough song, tough act to follow but I could just listen to you all day.” Andrew added: “Land of hope and Rory. You are fantastic Rory. You would eat up any arena.”
Last to perform tonight was Ben. He sang Roxette’s ‘It must have been love.’ Dawn said: “Ben, you took an 80’s ballad and you make it sound like a huge James Bond theme tune. What an intelligent and sensitive performer you are. That was a confident performance of a champ.” Jason said: “Ben you constantly add layers. It comes from the heart and that is the most important thing that we are feeling the emotion. I would pay good money to see you.” Mel C said: “I love your voice and sincerity. For me right now, you are my Jesus.”
Who has what it takes to play Jesus? Who is your Superstar?
Superstar.
