'The Dark Knight Rises' shooter James Holmes was, according to unconfirmed reports, hooked on the very same drugs that killed Batman star Heath Ledger.
There is no denying that James Holmes planned the rampage that killed 12 midnight movie-goers, including a six-year-old girl, with “calculation and deliberation”, as police have said in official statements following the cruel massacre.
Holmes received deliveries over several months, allowing him to arm himself with a terrifying arsenal of weapons - including a Remington shotgun, an AR-15 assault rifle and 6,000 rounds of ammunition - as well as rig his flat with dozens of bombs.
Experts are still working to clear dangerous explosive materials from inside Holmes’ home, two days after he killed 12 people, injuring 59 others, just minutes into the premiere of Batman film 'The Dark Knight Rises'.
After his arrest, he explained to police that he was the Joker, Batman’s nemesis. And now it seems that, if unconfirmed reports are to be believed, Holmes was hooked on the very same drug that led to the accidental overdose of Joker actor, Heath Ledger.
It is still unclear as to whether James Holmes was addicted to the narcotic prescription painkiller Vicodin, which was famously found in the system of Heath Ledger following his death in 2008.
But there is absolutely no denying that Holmes had a frightening and unhealthy obsession with the Batman films.
Holmes faces the death penalty if he can be proven mentally competent; he faces his first court appearance on Monday.
