Tom Cruise was reunited with his daughter Suri yesterday (July 17) for the first time since his split with wife of five years Katie Holmes and looked relieved to have the little girl back in his arms as sources reveal he is “sad” but not “bitter” about the breakdown of their relationship.
The 'Mission Impossible' star split from the 'Batman Begins' star at the end of June and finalised their divorce agreement just 11 days later which awarded primary custody of his only biological child to the actress.
While Suri has been seen out almost daily with her mother since the split was announced it was the first time that the 50 year-old actor had spent quality time with his daughter. He had been filming new movie 'Oblivion' when the 33 year-old filed for divorce and after wrapping up the shoot earlier this week immediately flew to New York from California to see Suri.
According to TMZ Tom picked Suri up from Katie's new apartment in the Chelsea neighbourhood where she moved following the split. Sources revealed he was there for only five minutes and as per conditions of their custody settlement did not see each other, the hand over carried out by intermediaries.
Tom took the little girl back to the Greenwich Hotel where he is staying for the visit and was later spotted taking her to her gymnastics class at Chelsea Piers.
The actor, who has been married three times has made it clear the welfare of his daughter is his main priority but is said to be “sad” about how things have ended with Katie.
