Fans of Christian Bale and David O. Russell were eager with anticipation to see the pair link up again after their previous collaboration 'The Fighter' saw Bale win a much deserved Oscar, but alas it's not happening.
Bale unfortunately has had to drop out of the project, and so it will be 'The Bourne Legacy' star Jeremy Renner is set to take the lead in Russell's new film 'American B******t', as he's in talks to replace the 'Batman' star.
One of Variety's reporters, Jeff Schneider Tweeted that the change in casting had occurred, writing: "E-X-C-L-U-S-I-V-E: 'THE BOURNE LEGACY' star JEREMY RENNER is in talks to replace CHRISTIAN BALE in DAVID O. RUSSELL's untitled Sony drama!"
It's refered to as 'untitled Sony drama' because of the film's slightly sweary title, but the substance of the film is slightly less blue, being a thriller based on a script by Eric Singer about a 1970s FBI sting operation called "Abscam" that resulted in a senator and five congressmen being convicted of criminal behaviour.
Renner shouldn't prove too bad a replacement, as he'll have plenty of experience of fighting government conspiracy from his current turn in 'The Bourne Legacy'.
