By now we've all heard of the Kate Effect, everything Ms Middleton touches turns to gold from her high street purchases right down to those coveted LK Bennett shoes. But now the extent of her royal power has been revealed as reports show she raised a massive $1.5 million for charity in just a few hours, with a little help from Prince William of course!
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge raised the money in just six hours during their US tour last year. Celebrities including Billy Zane and Jennifer Love Hewitt paid thousands to rub shoulders with the royal couple during an afternoon at a Californian polo club.
The Santa Barbara Polo Club in California hosted a special event for Kate and Wills last July where a total of $1.7 million was raised, just under $1.5 million has gone towards a charitable foundation set up by William and Prince Harry. The remainder of the money went to the polo club's training centre, which runs events for local children.
Ambassador Glen Holden, a trustee of the club who helped to organsie the event, told the Sunday Express today: ''I am extremely proud of what we did. It was a wonderful event. We were proud to have the royal couple at the club and for them to do such work for a good cause and raise such goodwill for England and America.
''Everyone that interacted with the Duke and Duchess thought they were so thoughtful, caring and welcoming. They did a marvelous job and these charities are charities that Americans are very much in favor of.''
Apparently organisers were only expecting to raise around $654,000 from the charity day and now, unsurprisingly are hoping to persuade the royal couple to make the event a regular feature in their calendar. Co-organizer Geannie Sheller said:''That is something we would like to see. It has been talked about.''
