Brace yourselves, Wallace And Gromit fans - we have some shocking news for you. It has been revealed that Gromit, Wallace's loyal companion, began his life as a CAT!
Get miaowt of here!
Nick Park, the creator of the legendary animated characters, has revealed that gromit - Wallace's disparaging canine companion - began his life as a cat.
Park explained to the Radio Times that the only reason Gromit became man's best friend was because dogs were easier to sculpt out of clay:
"I had this idea about a guy who builds a rocket in the basement of his house. I thought he had to have an assistant... So I drew a cat called Gromit. But when I came to model the cat out of clay, I found a dog easier to make. Plus I had a packet of dog's noses from a craft shop on me!"
"So Gromit became a dog."
It's just... it's just NOT something you should just blurt out like that Nick Park!
Loyal Wallace And Gromit fans barely had time to digest this shocking revelation before Nick Park continued in his quest to confuse and baffle us, explaining that Gromit the Cat would NOT have been the silent and weary sidekick to Wallace's madcap adventures.
"[Gromit would have been a] bouncy, extrovert character but on the first day of shooting, he was too hard to move... I found it much easier just moving his brow. It gave him a personality, an inner, discerning mind. Suddenly he became a contrast; a child more intelligent than his father".
This is all too much for us to take in. Everything we knew about Gromit has been shattered - thank heavens for spare dog noses and difficult-to-work-with clay!
