There's a vogue at the moment for Hollywood keeping things top secret until the last possible moment; details of 'The Dark Knight Rises' have been more closely guarded than the nuclear codes.
The same was true of the new 'Star Trek' movie, with fans guessing at exactly who Benedict Cumberbatch would be playing in the second of the rebooted films. That is until Karl Urban opened his mouth to SFX and inadvertantly told the world.
Asked what exactly it was like working with Cumberbatch he said: "He’s awesome, he’s a great addition, and I think his Gary Mitchell is going to be exemplary.”
Whoops! But who exactly is Gary Mitchell? Well for those who aren't trekkies he may be a little obscure but, we can tell you that in the original series he appeared in an episode called: “Where No Man Has Gone Before”, and was an old acquaintance of Captain Kirk who gained God-like powers after encountering a Galactic barrier.
Importantly however, co-writer and producer Robert Orci has denied in the past that Mitchell will play a role in the new film. Yet Orci has form for misleading fans in the name of keeping a plot under wraps; it was on his watch that Michael Bay denied that Megatron would appear in 'Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen', and you guessed it, he played a major part in the movie.
