Ofcom will investigate Channel 5 after receiving 1,225 complaints about racism on Big Brother.

The complaints concern three incidents, most of which were as a result of the expletive-heavy rant Irish contestant Conor McIntyre directed at former Miss India UK Deana Uppal, calling her "a piece of s**t".

There were also complaints about Caroline Warram, who refered to black contestant Adam Kelly as "a ridiculous gorilla" with "no sanitation".

The third incident involved former housemate Victor Ebuwa, who appeared on  Big Brother's Bit On The Side and refered to the housemate's "functioning retards".

Channel 5 has released the following official statement:

"Channel 5 is committed to complying with Ofcom's broadcasting code and will help to facilitate a speedy investigation into this particular episode of Big Brother and Big Brother's Bit on the Side."
