Another day, another Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes divorce update and now the pair have reportedly called a temporary truce, whilst their lawyers try to negotiate a full divorce settlement, TMZ has revealed.
Sources familiar to the situation have revealed that there are no immediate plans for either side to go to court and contrary to previous reports, there will be no court hearing Monday, Tuesday or in the forseeable future, unless the negotiations fall apart.
However, sources have said that the lawyers are negotiating child custody, child support and a property settlement. TMZ were also told that the whole thing could be ratified in New York if all goes well and in other words, there may not be a move by Tom's camp to transfer the case to California, where judges are more likely to award joint custody.
Another source has since added that the emotional state of the negotiations is 'calm', even though it was reported yesterday (July 6) that Tom had hit back at Katie and accused her of 'playing the media', following their shock split after five years of marriage.
The actor's lawyer Bert Fields made the accusation in an interview with the BBC and made it clear relations between the two “sides” are not amicable and that it wouldn't be a “public” split.
"It's not Tom's style to do this publicly. He is really sad about what's happening,” Fields claimed. "We are letting 'the other side' (Katie and her team), play the media until they wear everyone out and then we'll have something to say.”
The 'Mission Impossible' star is expected to file a counter suit of divorce and custody claim for Suri, with Fields confirming: "Tactically we can't say where Tom will file a divorce case and if he'll be seeking joint custody of Suri.”
We hope everything gets sorted out soon and for the best. Stay tuned for updates!
