Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt has told of working with legendary actresses Shirley MacLaine and Maggie Smith on the set of the hit ITV show, explaining that spending time with the ladies on set has been “magical”.
Joanne, who plays housemaid Anna Bates, is currently filming the third series of the award-winning show, which has received international critical acclaim.
Joanne told People Magazine: “This scene I was in, there's an amazing little conversation between the two of them, a sort of snipey conversation... It was like watching these two legends at work. It was one of the most special days I think I've ever had on set. It was magical."
Joanne also hinted at her character's involvement in attempting to clear her husbands name after he finds himself accused of murder, “You do see her grow up that little bit more, and she's a married lady now, she's Mrs Bates. She moves into a more senior position in the house and she kind of becomes a woman.”
She continued, “Obviously her and Mr Bates are having their turmoils again, so she's fighting to free her man as well.”
Downton Abbey will air on ITV later this year.
