Two hats that the Duchess of Cambridge wore before she was married have sold at an auction for three times their guide price, it has been reported.
Kate Middleton rented the hats for around £100 each from Get Ahead Hats in Reading for two separate occasions. Both hats were expected to sell for £1,000-£1,500 each. But how can you put an estimated figure on the crazy Kate effect?
The first hat, a black Philip Somerville design with black and white feather detail which was worn by Kate to watch then-boyfriend Prince William be presented with the Order of the Garter by Her Majesty in 2008, has been sold for £3,224.
Another rented hat, this time a large black feathered piece by Aurora which Kate wore to the wedding of friend Harry Meade in October 2010, shortly before she and Wills publicly announced their engagement, has sold for an even higher £3,720.
Both were purchased by an anonymous bidder and rental receipts and diary entries showing her appointments in the store were auctioned off together with the hats.
Looks like someone has a little obsession with the Duchess… those hats will be getting a good sniff tonight!
