Rihanna lived up to her reputation as one of the best performers on the planet as she entertained the crowds at the last day of Radio 1’s Hackney weekend. (June 24)
Taking to the stage in a billowing shirt and suspenders the crowd were clearly ready for her antics as she shouted, “Hackney, you’re crazier than they told me”.
The 24 year-old joined her fellow headliner on stage the night before and Jay Z returned the favour as the couple performed ‘Talk, That Talk’ before ending the set with Riri’s classic ‘Umbrella’.
While fans looked forward to Rihanna, they were even more intrigued by who the special guest performer, set to warm the stage up for the ‘Rude Boy’ singer was. After weeks of speculation and with Nikki Minaj taking the slot on the Saturday night the rumours amongst the crowd were that for Coldplay, Kanye West or Katy Perry.
However, fans were bemused when Dizzie Racal was announced as the ‘secret performer’ and were surprised that the rapper should have been placed above Tinnie Tempah and Florence and the Machine in the billing despite his lack of recent chart success.
After such a build-up, with weeks of speculation some fans were left disappointed and left the main stage to watch Chase and Status and David Guetta on the other stages. Although others did enjoy seeing the London native rule the stage at their home event.
He may not have been on the main stage, but Ben Howard's set was one of the top attractions of the Sunday with fans spilling out of the ‘In New Music We Trust’ tent to watch the singer. Azealia Banks also drew the crowds at the Radio One Extra tent.
But no one could steal the spotlight from Riri!
