Strictly Come Dancing has reportedly signed up it’s newest star to compete in the next series of the popular BBC1 dancing show – cricketer Michael Vaughan.
Former England cricket captain Michael is more likely to be seen aiming for the wicket on the pitch than squeezing into a sequin costume to dance the foxtrot, but the sporting star will reportedly feature in the new line up, set to air in September.
Michael, who led the England team to win the Ashes in 2005, was said to have reservations about joining the dancing contest initially. “Michael was chuffed that the BBC asked him to take part. But he was really uncertain about it,” an insider told The Sun.
“He had to think hard about having to dress up in pink and sequins and learn how to dance in front of millions of viewers.”
He reportedly turned to pal and former contestant Robbie Savage for advice on whether to take part or not. “He asked a lot of his sporting mates if he should do it and Robbie immediately told him to say yes, as he had such a great time in last year’s show.”
Former England cricket stars Darren Gough and Mark Ramprakash have both previously won the reality show, proving popular with viewers and judges alike.
Michael is said to be the first celebrity to sign up for the new series, but former Westlife singer Nicky Byrne is said to also have been approached.
