Billie Piper, shocked viewers when she shed the good-girl image she built up as an assistant to Doctor Who by playing a prostitute in The Secret Diary Of A Call Girl yet she's set to top the controversy caused by that little bit of raunchiness by playing a teacher who gets involved in a forbidden lesbian fling with a pupil.
In the new drama, airing next week and called True Love, Billie plays Holly, a teacher involved in an unromantic affair with a married man, who becomes embroiled in a shocking affair when she falls in love with a teenage pupil, played by Skins star Kaya Scodelarino.
The series will provoke controversy, both due to the raunchy nature of the scenes, including a passionate kiss and scenes witht he pair in bed together, but also due to the ethical difficulties and illegality of her character's actions.
According to The Mirror, BBC bosses defended the storyline, citing its similarity to real cases that have shocked in the past. The paper reported that a BBC source said: “This storyline will get some criticism but it’s been well researched and is similar to real-life events.”
