Russell Brand shocked an audience who'd come to see the Dalai Lama and support the cause of the Tibetan people - after boasting of his varied sex life in front of the spiriual leader of the Tibetan people.
Brand introduced the Dalai Lama, in what may be one of showbiz's most unlikely partnerships - a womanising comedian and movie star, and a man who's been rigidly coached in the self-denying tenets of Buddhism since he was a young boy.
Brand seemed to acknowledge as much, with The Sun quoting him as saying: "Some of you might be surprised to see me here. I’ve gone from being Shagger of the Year three times to introducing the Dalai Lama It has certainly been an interesting journey. The Dalai Lama told me ‘We are all just people’ and I’ve taken that on board as I was very nervous meeting him.”
However the great man himself took the comedian's rowdiness in his stride, as Brand has been a long-term supporter of the Tibetan cause, along with many of Hollywood's great and good.
The Buddhist leader said: "Some people told me before to listen to this strange person’s explanations, I was surprised but I think your openness is wonderful.”
The Dalai Lama has campaigned for years for his county's indendence from China, touring the world to drum up support since being forced into exile.
