Red or Black? debuted last year on ITV1 to lackluster ratings and will be revamped on its return for a second series. The show will be adapted to include a new game called ‘The Vortex’ after the giant roulette wheel was recently deemed as ‘glamourising gambling’ by the Gambling Commission.
A source from the show told The Sun, "We had planned a game where people have to get the ball into a red or black hole. It would have been like a pinball board, where how hard you send the ball running and when you flick the ball determines where you end up."
According to the source, The Vortex will likely be an improvement on the original roulette wheel, "It will still be as tense as the roulette wheel - it could even be more exciting as the ball will hang around for longer", the source added.
The show, which was created by Simon Cowell, will also no longer be broadcast live to allow production staff enough time to check out the backgrounds of potential contestants.
Producers were left red-faced last year after it was revealed that £1million winning contestant Nathan Hagemen had served time in prison for GBH after allegedly beating a woman.
Red or Black? returns later this summer on Saturday nights, ITV1.
