Katy Perry is set to star opposite Sacha Baron Cohen in a new film about Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, who tragically died of AIDS in 1991.
The ‘Firework’ singer is reportedly a strong contender to play Mary Austin, the girlfriend of Mercury, whose bisexuality was the subject of much speculation throughout his career.
According to The Mirror the singer’s star power is set to land her the role, which will no doubt be a dramatic one given Mercury’s incredible career and colourful private life.
Baron Cohen apparently has the blessing of remaining Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor, and is working with them to try and begin filming next year.
The star didn't look particularly ready to take on a serious role, when seen drunk after partying with Justin Bieber.
Rock biopics have come into fashion in recent years, with the story of Joy Division’s Ian Curtis, John Lennon’s early life, and The Blockheads’ Ian Curtis all making their way on to the big screen.
