John Travolta stepped out in public for the first time last night after a series of sensational allegations surrounding his sexuality.
The actor presented the 40th AFI Life Achievement Award to actress Shirley MacLaine at a star studded ceremony in Los Angeles. It is the first time the actor has appeared in public and despite his clean cut appearance looked drained as he honoured the 78 year-old Academy Award winning actress.
He had understandably skipped the red carpet before the event as he joined fellow stars Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep. Travolta, whose wife Kelly Preston was noticeably absent led the tributes to the actress alongside Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty and Morgan Freeman.
The ’Grease’ star was rocked by accusations of sexual assault against two male massage therapists earlier this month.
Since the allegations were made more lewd details of his private life have come to light including recently claims that he enjoyed a six year gay affair with a pilot Doug Gotterba in the 1980s.
Travolta’s legal team have denied all claims and after initially defending her husband it is thought Preston, who married the actor in 1991 has left him.
