Phillip Phillips couldn't stop himself bursting into tears after winning American Idol, faltering during the performance of 'Home'.

It seems the 21-year-old is still proving a valued customer for Kleenex, as he's said that despite it being almost another day later he hasn't stopped crying.

According to People magazine he said: "I hate crying, but I'll probably cry some more. It feels good at times."

The publication said that he told reporters after the show: "I wasn't thinking about anything, not even the song, I wasn't really wanting to sing or anything. I just started thinking about the whole journey and how far all of us have come, and how we've made it. It's so overwhelming."

Phillips seems to be totally overwhelmed by the experience, and even said that he wasn't a great singer, something which over half of the record 132 million votes cast would evidently disagree with.

He said: "This doesn't feel real, it's so unreal. It still hasn't sunk in yet. It's such a blessing. I have no idea why this happened. I just want to play music and I'm just a lucky guy," also saying: "I'm not a great singer. I just love having fun up on stage and playing good music and getting the crowd into it. Music's fun, dude."

If Phillip does ever manage to stop warding off a drought in the US this summer, then he could well have a lot of fun, given that he's now not only a professional singer but one of the most sought after in the Western world.
