Kelly Clarkson has joked that her new boyfriend is interfering with her ability to write heartbreak anthems.
The original American Idol champ is well-known for break-up hits such as 'Since U Been Gone', 'Behind These Hazel Eyes' and 'Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)', but said her fans may be surprised by how upbeat her new material is.
''It is killing me," she told People. "I'm trying to write a tough song and it is coming out like butterflies and rainbows.
"It is ruining my creativity. I'm writing all this happy stuff."
The star, who has been dating talent manager Brandon Blackstock since late last year, said that her lighter schedule has helped her fit in a relationship.
"People used to ask, 'Why are you single?'," she explained, "and I'd say, 'It is not in my schedule.' I'm in a relationship right now and I have time for it. I never used to.
"With my new stuff, people are going to be, like, 'What the hell happened to you.' It has been really difficult. I love it. It's an awesome problem to have."
