Kerry Katona has shockingly defended Stacey Solomon over her smoking while pregnant scandal by claiming that Silk Cut “aren’t real cigarettes”.
The X Factor star was heavily criticised after photos of her smoking while pregnant emerged and she admitted that she has been having at least two or three a day.
Now former Atomic Kitten star, Kerry has made the bizarre claim that Silk Cut cigarettes, which are a low tar cigarette, aren’t “real” and that she smoked while pregnant with her four children.
She wrote in her OK! Magazine column: “Let's be honest, Stacey's smoking Silk Cut — it's not even a real cigarette.” I got the same stick Stacey got,” she continued, “I smoked during pregnancy, two to three a day.”
The reality TV star, who has had a well-publicised battle with drug addiction, then claimed that her doctor made the recommendation to her: “My doctor said: ‘If it's stressing you out don't panic, because smoking isn't as harmful as stress’.”
While we are not sure when Kerry became qualified to give out medical advice it completely contradicts the official advice stated by the NHS website: “Protecting your baby from tobacco smoke is one of the best things you can do to give your child a healthy start in life. Every cigarette you smoke in pregnancy harms your unborn baby.”
Stacey Solomon made an emotional appearance on This Morning following the exposure of her habit and apologised for her actions.
She told Holly and Phil: “At the end of the day, nothing that I can say makes it right.”
“All I can say is that from the day I found out that I was pregnant, I have tried my best to give up. I completely understand why people would be angry, because for some people it's uncomprehendable.”
