Former Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Bones star David Boreanaz took to Twitter to reveal that he would like to step back in time and star in Julian Fellowes’ period drama Downton Abbey, the Christmas special of which just aired on US TV.
Borenaz’s hopes were triggered by the suggestion from the Earl of Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) that his daughter Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) would flee to America to avoid scandal and meet “an American cowboy”.
In response to this Boreanaz tweeted: "I'd like to be that American cowboy who shakes things up at Downton Abbey," adding: "I'm open for a visit Mr. Fellowes."
It may not be too much of a stretch for the American actor to take on the role, having previously donned period costume in a series of flashbacks during his time as a star of Buffy and Angel.
However British viewers will have known that barring a major change in direction for the show, Borenaz will have to remain an enthralled viewer, as during the special Mary finally got engaged to long time love interest Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens).
Though having to watch from the sofa like the rest of us, Boreanaz was full of praise for the hit drama, calling it a "great series" with "great production value".
What do you think? Would you like to see David appear in Downton?
