If there's one thing we know award shows don't really like, it's the British sense of humour. Just look at what happened to Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes!
But you can't keep a good joke down...
If reports are to be believed, cheeky Sacha Baron Cohen (better known as Borat and Ali G!) is planning on arriving at the Oscars this Sunday ‘in character’ as The Dictator, the protagonist of his upcoming film of the same name.
Hmm.
Obviously, the Oscar bosses are more than a little nervous about the planned stunt and have made their feelings on the subject very clear:
“We would hope that every studio knows that this is a bad idea. The red carpet is not about stunting.”
Oh dear, that all sounds very dull and serious, doesn't it? The Oscar bosses obviously haven't witnessed the hilarity that is Borat. Or they have and don't want the same brand of humour turning the prestigious ceremony into a mockery.
We're pretty hopeful that the stunt will go ahead as planned; there's nothing we like more than some added spice to our red carpet events. However, it's unlikely that studio bosses will allow Cohen to walk the scarlet rug dressed as The Dictator if the Academy are already blue in the face about it.
Fingers crossed he defies everyone and goes for it!
