A picture of Whitney Houston was published in the National Enquirer today; however, in an act damned by many as utterly tasteless, the picture is of the late star's corpse in her coffin.

The photograph was apparently taken inside the Whigham Funeral Home, during a private wake for the family on the eve of her funeral. However, it remains unclear as to who snapped the trigger on the camera.

The magazine claims that Whitney was buried in $500,000 worth of jewels, her favourite purple dress and golden slippers. In short, she was dressed like a Queen. Oddly fitting for the woman who had reached the dizzying heights of pop royalty.

Twitter has become a force to be reckoned with, allowing people to express their disgust and emotions on the unsettling snap. And, as people find it difficult to express their feelings, we couldn't help thinking back to other celebs who found their picture on the front page post-mortem.

Michael Jackson's lifeless body was famously published in newspapers and magazines worldwide, after the unsettling deathbed photo was used as evidence in the sensational drial against Dr Conrad Murray. John Lennon and Elvis also had coffin snaps posted on the frontpages of the Enquirer after their untimely passings.

Celebrities spend their life in the public eye, but does that mean we should be privy to their death as well? Do they deserve to maintain some privacy or is it only fair to allow the public to grieve for those whose life they have so avidly followed?

To be honest, we're not sitting on the fence with this one. It's creepy, end of.
