Aretha Franklin was allegedly banned from Whitney Houston's funeral by the late star's mother Cissy, according to a rather tenuous report from a US tabloid.

Franklin pulled out of performing at the service on Saturday, citing a bad leg that needed resting ahead of her concert later that evening.

HollywoodLife now speculates that the reason she was not in attendance was in fact that Cissy had dis-invited her over comments she had made on The Today Show.

"Parents have to really talk to their children before they leave home," she had said. "They have to make sure when they leave home, they have all the right things. She left home with all the right things, but she just kind of lost her way along the way."

Dionne Warwick introduced Franklin during the funeral service, only to be told that she was not there. Her absence was so last-minute that there was no time to remove her from the running order.

Hmmm, we're not convinced by these "banned" reports - is it too much to believe that someone simply had an injured leg?! What do you reckon?
