US actress Claire Danes has compared her character in Homeland to Edward Scissorhands.
The actress, who has won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison, revealed to the Telegraph that she wasn't able to refuse the role once she heard about it.
The actress, who has made her TV comeback on the critically acclaimed US show, said:
"Carrie is unlike any character I have ever come across, in any medium, and that was just too tantalising to pass up. She is wired in a different way. It's very isolating to be bipolar.
"It's very hard to form new relationships, it's incredibly destructive if it's left untreated and even when it is, it's pernicious. CIA work is also very isolating and lonely. So I think Carrie just sort of accepts that she will forever be a bit of a misanthrope, or somebody who is always excluded from conventional experience and relationships."

She added: "I think of her as Edward Scissorhands, too - she doesn't want to get too close to anybody."
The show, which premiered on Channel 4 last night, was a hit with nearly two million people tuning in.
