You know it's a good night out when Alexa Chung is hypnotised and levitated above three razor-sharp swords!
Stella McCartney's fashion spectacular at London Fashion Week last night appeared, at first glances, to be your standard formal event; black tie dinner, anyone?
However, the formality was an illusion, giving way to one of the most magical pieces of interactive performance art ever!
Attended by Rihanna, Kate Moss and Yasmin Le Bon amongst countless wel-dressed others, the evening began normally enough; a jazzy orchestra, a moodily-lit Mayfair hall and a six-course vegtarian dinner. Yummy! What guests didn't realise was that models, dressed in marble-printed silk eveningwear, had blended in amongst the guests. Each and every table was hosting a brand new dress from the AW12 McCartney collection.
Sneaky! We bet those models were too terrified to eat a single morsel for fear of spilling disasters...
The dinner was cleared by the waiting staff and the musicians melted away, allowing Dutch magician Hans Klok to take the stage. And, as mentioned, he had something special planned for Alexa Chung (Ambassador for Young Fashion), hypnotising her and causing her to levitate above three extremely pointy-looking swords.
Gulp!
And that wasn't even the best bit of the night! Remember those sneakily hidden models? They jumped up and onto the tables, performing a ballet to some Led Zeppelin. There were even a few professional dancers in the mix, who had been masquerading as mannequins for the entire evening. Some hung suspended from the ceiling on zip wires, others dangled with optical illusion bandage dresses... chaos. Wonderful, wonderful chaos.
Stella McCartney told The Guardian that she hoped she added a touch of intrigue and mystique to LFW12:
"I wanted to do something special to celebrate being back in London... I love magic, and that was pretty magic."
We couldn't agreee more! That's set the bar pretty high for all the other fashion weeks to come, hasn't it?
