Adele's estranged father has said he is crushed by the star's remarks in Vogue magazine about wanting to spit in his face.
The 23-year-old was furious that he had sold his story to the newspapers - and it seems he has responded by speaking to another publication.
She had said: "If I ever see him, I will spit in his face... He will never hear from me again."
He has now told the Daily Mail: "I can’t believe she said that. It’s devastating. I don’t know where it’s come from."
He admitted that he does not own a copy of either of his daughter's albums, but he spoke to her at Christmas.
"I called to tell her I was thinking of her but it was a very brief call," he said. "She was very busy, but everything seemed okay between us."
Of her recent successes, he said: "I’m so proud of her — I’m walking 10ft tall at the moment.
"I can’t turn the clock back. I know I was a rotten father, but, in the end, she’s made it. She deserves all the happiness and success in the world."
