It looks as though one Walford resident will be swapping Albert Square for the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor when the show returns later this year.
Following the reports that EastEnders Charlie Brooks, who plays scheming Janine Butcher will leave the soap for six months in August, The Sun has now reported that she will spend that time off limbering up for the hit talent show, with a source hinting:
"It's more or less a done deal. Charlie would be a dream signing for Strictly. She's high-profile and popular and judging by the Christmas special, she has natural ability."
Revealing what will be happening in the run up to her exit from the soap, Charlie, whose character is currently pregnant, said:
"Baby. I think that's about all I can say really as that's all I know. I've got six months off in August so we're having the bump, but I won't have to deal with prams and stuff in extra small doors on the set."
Confirming Janine's exit from the show, a soap spokesperson said: "Charlie will be taking a break from EastEnders later this year. Over the coming months there will be a lot of unexpected twists and turns and the story is bound to be explosive."
Speaking about Strictly Come Dancing in a previous interview, the actress made no secret of her interest in taking part in the show. She said: "It would be fantastic to do the whole show but EastEnders is a six-days-a-week job. I've seen how difficult it is to juggle both but it would be an amazing opportunity."
However a spokesperson for Strictly dismissed the rumours, telling us: "This is purely speculation and it is far too early to say who will appear in the line-up for this year’s series."
