Viewers of Big Fat Gypsy Weddings have slammed the show for glamourising cancer after they saw traveller Sammy-Jo brush off the risk of getting cancer by using a sunbed three times a week.
The show, which premiered its second season on Tuesday night showed 16-year-old Sammy claim: "If I get cancer, I get cancer. At least I'll look good", as she prepared to feature in the first traveller beauty pageant.
Angered by the comments made by the teen, viewers soon took to Twitter to vent, with one viewer tweeting: "oh my god.. that's ignorant behaviour. Genuinely not sure what to say about that girls comments about cancer.."
Another added: "'Yeahhhh at the end of the day, what's a bit of Cancer when you've won the local gypsy beauty contest? #gypsyweddings".
Poking fun at Sammy Jo's comment, comedian Chris Ramsey sarcastically tweeted: "NEWS FLASH: travellers are immune to cancer #gypsyweddings."
Reacting to the complaints about Sammy Jo, the Mail Online reports a spokesperson for Channel 4 saying that the teen had been "challenged on camera about the potential consequences" of using sunbeds.
What do you think?
It's back!
