Jonny Lee Miller has signed up to play super sleuth Sherlock Holmes in a new US series.
The 'Trainspotting' star will take on the role made famous in recent years by Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey JR.
The series, titled Elementary, will be loosely based on the hit Brit series Sherlock, a modern day update of the detective tales starring Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Watson.
Jonny will star in the pilot episode for CBS, and producers are hoping to have a whole series commissioned if the ratings are high. But BBC bosses behind the original Brit series are reportedly not so keen to see the show, calling it "a blatant attempt to copy and cash in."
No word yet on Benedict's reaction to the casting news, he of course shared the stage with Miller in the acclaimed National Theatre production of Frankenstein last year.
