Whitney Houston’s death has shocked fans around the world, yet those close to the star have admitted that the star’s untimely death is “not a great surprise” as she was on a “downward spiral for a long time”.
The multi-award winning star was found dead in her hotel room on Saturday in Los Angeles. The 48 year-old had a long running battle with drug and alcohol addiction and though the cause of death has yet to be established, prescription drugs and alcohol were found in her room at the Beverly Hilton hotel.
A music insider told People Magazine: “As sad as this sounds, it's not a great surprise and yet, it's unbelievable.
"There are demons she fought privately and publicly for many years. While doing ‘Sparkle’ she was seemingly in a good place but the demons run deep. Very deep."
The source went on to slam the entourage of hangers on that surrounded Whitney for not helping the struggling singer. It was clear on a night out on Thursday that the star was far from well as she partied in Los Angeles.
The source continued: “She's been on a downward spiral for a long time and when you have those people around you that enable the behaviour...She couldn't shake those demons."
The singer was found in her bathtub on Saturday afternoon hours before she was set to perform at Clive Davis’ Annual pre-Grammy party. Emergency services were called but failed to revive the star and she was pronounced dead at 3:55pm.
Her on-off boyfriend rapper Ray J who accompanied her on her night out on Thursday is said to be devestated by the death of the singer and is being comforted by his sister Brandy.
