Russell Brand has been approached to star in a new film about iconic Brit band The Smiths.
Manchester Evening News has reported that producers of the forthcoming film have already cast Downton Abbey star Jessica Brown-Findlay. Jessica, who plays Lady Sybil Crawley in the hit ITV series, heads a cast of up and coming Brit talent in the film.
Titled 'Shoplifters of the World Unite', the film is based on the true story of an American Smiths fan left devasted after the band break up in the 80's. The story takes a biazarre turn when the fan breaks into a radio station and forces a heavy metal DJ to play nothing but Smiths tunes for hours.
Producers have approached Brand, a huge Smiths and Morrissey fan to take on the DJ. They've already secured the rights to over 20 Smiths songs for the movie which begins shooting this summer.
Russell Brand In Town Yesterday...
is in the frame alongside a cast of young hip stars to star in the film, titled Shoplifters of the World Unite, which will be soundtracked by a host of songs from the Manc indie icons. The film is to be based on the true story of an American Smiths fan, who, devastated by the band's 1987 break-up, forced a heavy metal DJ to play nothing but Smiths songs for hours. The film will focus on both the fan and his best mates with Jessica said to be cast alongside the likes of Love Actually's Thomas Brodie Sangster and Jeremy Allen White who plays Lip Gallagher in the US version of Shameless.

Jessica, who plays Downton's Lady Sybil Crawley and is pictured here at the BAFTA awards on Sunday, is in the frame alongside a cast of young hip stars to star in the film, titled Shoplifters of the World Unite, which will be soundtracked by a host of songs from the Manc indie icons.
