Whitney Houston was a huge inspiration to most musicians out there today, and now Jennifer Lopez has joined stars including Beyonce, who have paid tribute to the late singer.

The American Idol judge expressed her shock at hearing that Whitney had died suddenly in her suite at the Beverly Hilton hotel and said that she was "devastated".

During her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno earlier this week, February 13, the mother-of-two said: "I met her a couple of times and obviously when I heard the news I was as shocked and devastated as everybody else."

The singer also added: "She was such a big part of me growing up and musically everything I knew. She was kind of the pinnacle of a voice of our time and our generation. It's just so sad.

"I couldn't believe it. I was in my living room and was on the phone with my manager. We'd just hung up and he called back one second later... I hate talking about it, it's sad."

Tweeting shortly after hearing about the sad news this weekend, JLo wrote: "Such a loss. One of the greatest voices of our time. Sending out prayers to her family... #R.I.P.Whitney. (sic)"

Whitney's body has now been flown to New Jersey ahead of her funeral which is rumoured to be this weekend.
