Nicki Minaj has revealed the tragic loss behind her decision to become the public face an AIDs awareness campaign.
The Super Bass star is set to become the public face of Viva Glam which raises money for HIV testing programmes and anti-AIDS groups. Viva Glam, is the charity off shoot of MAC cosmetics previously had Lady Gaga as their public figure.
It is a personal connection to the disease that has promoted her to front the campaign after her uncle passes away from the disease when she was a teenager.
The star told Stella Magazine: “He was a police officer. He didn't fit the stereotype and that was very eye-opening for me."
At only age 13 it was a great effect on the young Nicki and has now inspired her to help others who suffer from the disease.
Nicki Minaj suffered an upset at Sunday night's Grammy Awards (Feb. 13) when she lost the best newcomer award to folk band 'Bon Iver'.
