Whitney Houston’s body was under water for at least 30 minutes according to an autopsy that was performed on Sunday.
The 48 year-old singer was found unconscious in her hotel room on Saturday afternoon and was declared dead by paramedics at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.
According to Radar Online an autopsy was performed with police present during the examination. Speculation as to what caused her death has been rife since it was announced to a shocked world.
The singer was known to have been battling drug addiction and been acting erratically earlier in the week at a pre- Grammy event.
A source said: "a plethora of sedatives including Lorazepam, Valium, Xanax, and a sleeping medication that was found in her hotel room."
It had been suggested that the singer drowned accidentally in the bath, the source revealed: "Based on the condition of her body, and her coloring, Whitney might have been underwater for at least 30 minutes.”
It was not obvious from the results what caused her death, the source added: “There were no physical signs of trauma on Whitney's body. She weighed over 150 pounds, and there was food in her stomach. Upon closer inspection of her throat, it did look enflamed, but nothing out of the realm of normal.”
A toxicology report on the drugs and alcohol that may have been present in the star’s body when she died will take 6-8 weeks to complete.
