Although fitness expert Rosemary Conley is double the age of many of her co-contestants, she has managed to thoroughly impress both the judges and the general public with her energetic routines on Dancing On Ice.

However her ability wasn’t enough to keep her in the competition, and following a skate-off against Olympic skier Chemmy Alcott, Rosemary was voted off of the show last night.

Speaking after her exit from the show, Rosemary gushed: "I've loved every second!" But appearing on ITV1 breakfast show Daybreak the next morning, it was clear the 65-year-old was struggling to hold back the tears.

The fitness guru was overcome with emotion as she sincerely thanked her professional skating partner Mark Hanretty for being such a great teacher and getting her so far in the competition.

Rosemary said "I have to say that thanks to Mark being such a fantastic coach and it's been an absolute joy for the last three and half months – sorry, I get all emotional – to skate with him…We had a ball."

She added: "As soon as I knew I was in the skate-off, I knew that would be it. Because everybody else was a better skater than me, and as soon as I knew it was Chemmy, then as I said at the time – you might as well give me the flowers now."

The competition this year has been fierce, with competition leaders Jorgie Porter and Matthew Wolfenden displaying exceptional moves not usually seen on Dancing On Ice in the early weeks of the show.

Rosemary admitted to the Daybreak that she found it incredibly challenging to keep up with them: "The competition this year has been the hardest it's ever, ever been. They were doing things in week one that you would normally see in week seven or eight."

Do you think Rosemary deserved to go last night?
