Dowton Abbey star Elizabeth MacGovern has been left shocked by reports that her grandfather may have inspired Indiana Jones.
The American actress insists there's no "direct correlation" between her ancestor William McGovern and the character made famous by Harrison Ford but his fascinating life story has links to the intrepid explorer.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times the actress says: "He did have a period in his life where he was an explorer. He was reputedly the first white man ever to enter Lhasa. He entered by staining his skin a darker colour and pretending not to be a white man."
According to Elizabeth her grandfather went on to write a book about his adventures entitled 'To Lhasa in Disguise.' The actress admits he was "a very fascinating man I didn't know very well. He had children and became a professor at Northwestern in Evanston near Chicago, so he had by that time settled down in his life. It is an amazing story."
Meanwhile Elizabeth admits she's "over the moon" after it was confirmed screen legend Shirley MacLaine will be joining the cast of Downton Abbey.
