Rob Brydon has dashed the hopes of Gavin & Stacey fans, believing that Ruth Jones cannot reprise her celebrated role as scary Nessa Jenkins due to her considerable weight loss.
Ruth originally wrote the popular BBC comedy with co-star James Corden, who has also slimmed down since being in the public eye. Together they have lost a combined 9½ stone, with Ruth dropping from 17½ to 13 stone over the last two years.
Rob Brydon, who plays affable Uncle Bryn in Gavin & Stacey, said to The Sun: "It'll be tricky now, as a lot of what worked about Nessa was her weight.
He added: "I personally think it would be best just to leave it."
Fans of the show have been vocal in calling for new episodes, following the shows end after three hit series and a Christmas special in 2010.
Although Rob now believes that it would be "tricky” for Ruth and James to make a reappearance as Nessa and Smithy, he was quick to point out that if there was a reunion, he would not stand in the way:
"People want it - and if they did do it, I wouldn't be the one who stood out and didn't," he insisted.
However it is still unsure as to whether more Gavin & Stacey episodes are in the works, despite Ruth saying she would love to revisit the characters, as James Corden’s West End play One Man, Two Guvnors is moving to Broadway and Ruth's Sky One show Stella has just been given a second series.
Do you think Ruth and James are too skinny to play Nessa and Smithy?
