Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy Wins Two Baftas

British spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy won two awards at last night's Baftas.

The film based on John Le Carré’s classic novel was nominated for 11 awards but only managed to pick up two as The Artist triumphed in most categories. It collected trophies for Outstanding British Film whilst co-writers Peter Straughan and his late wife, Bridget O'Connor, won the Best Adapted Screenplay prize.

Straughan paid tribute to his co-writer and wife in his moving speech and also jokingly thank The Artist for "not being adapted from a book".

Gary Oldman lost out to Jean Dujardin in the Best Actor category despire rave reviews for his portrayl of MI6 spy George Smiley. Meanwhile his co-star John Hurt picked up one of the night's major awards, the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema, an accolade honouring his sixty years in film.
