A heartbroken Bobby Brown has made a poignant tribute to his ex-wife Whitney Houston who died yesterday, telling the crowd at his gig last night “I love you Whitney”.

The singer was said to be inconsolable on hearing about the death of his ex-wife yesterday at the age of 48 and according to People Magazine was in and out of "crying fits" just hours before he was due to perform with his band 'New Edition' at a concert in Mississippi.

Deciding that the concert was to go on, the broken singer made a touching tribute to the ‘I Will Always Love you’ singer before breaking down uncontrollably.

According to US Weekly Bobby said: “I would like to say, I love you, Whitney." The hardest thing for me to do is to come on this stage.”

The source revealed that the singer sobbed as he performed the ballad 'Tendorni' and asked the audience to sing instead before he eventually walked off, unable to complete the performance.

Bobby, who had a tumultuous 15 year marriage to the 48 year-old singing sensation was “shattered and beyond devastated” when he found out that Whitney was dead.

Their marriage was often blamed for Whitney’s drug addictions and despite their tempestuous and fiery rows, the Grammy Award winner once said of Bobby “He was my drug”.

The couple had put their difference aside recently and were spotted only last week stepping out for dinner together with their only daughter, 18 year-old Bobbi Kristina.

A police spokesman confirmed the death of the multi-award winning singer at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles yesterday.Whitney was found by a member of her security team who immediately contacted the emergency services. Despite attempts to save her life, the singer was pronounced dead at 3:55pm.
